[day3] PFYH: spiritual growth

[day3] pray for your husband: to have spiritual growth

But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. 2 Peter 3:18

We need to pray that our man desires to grow in the Lord!

Accountability before God is an important spiritual discipline.

heart

20-My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. 21-Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. 22- For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. 23- Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. 24- Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee. 25- Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee. 26- Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. 27- Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil. Proverbs 4:20-27

And one way to grow is to remember to guard the heart!

We must pray for our husbands to guard what they see, hear, think and say! This is not only guarding AGAINST things but also purposing FOR looking at the pure, hearing truth, thinking on the lovely and speaking honestly!

Let’s pray for our men to grow spiritually and
guard their hearts from wickedness!

[day 4] PFYH: to love righteousness

[day 4] pray for your husband: to love righteousness

We want our men to LOVE RIGHTEOUSNESS!

Conversely, this means they must learn to hate evil.

11-My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that reproacheth me. 12- A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished. Proverbs 27:11-12

Learning to hide oneself from evil requires a wisdom
that comes only from the Lord.

We should pray for this for our man!

heart

11-Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are. …15-I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. 16- They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. John 17: 15-16

Here we are given an example from our Lord Jesus to pray for others to be kept from evil… because we are not to be OF the world even while we are IN the world!

12-Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. 13- There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. 14- Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry. 1 Corinthians 10:12-14

It is so easy to think we can stand in our own strength. And there will be days in which our husbands may come to this conclusion.

Let us pray that they remember:

pride in our own strength will cause us to stumble [Proverbs 16:18];

BUT God is faithful and will always be there in times of temptation.

Let us pray for our husbands
to rest in God’s strength
and keep themselves from evil
and to LOVE RIGHTEOUSNESS!

[day 5] PFYH: be a man of INTEGRITY

[day 5] pray for your husband: to be a man of INTEGRITY

I know I want my husband’s reputation to be one of integrity!

But what does this word, integrity, mean?

the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness;
being undivided in loyalty; internal consistence or lack of corruption.

heart

We should pray for these qualities in our man.

The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot. Proverbs 20:7

…because, I, for one, do not want his name to rot! 🙂

Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned: 1 Timothy 1:5

We should pray for our husband to have these qualities:

a pure heart,

[the innermost man would be free of corruption, blameless, even cleansed as by fire]

a good conscience

[to have a healthy, or Godly, distinction of right and wrong],

and a faith unfeigned

[a sincere trust in God, not false or for show].

blackeyed susan

Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. 1 Timothy 3:7

I realize this verse comes in the qualifications of a bishop, but these traits should be the desire of ALL men of God. And the ability for those “without” [presumably outside the faith, or lost] to think well of a Godly man speaks volumes of his closeness to the Savior. When Christian men go around and leave a foul taste towards the things of God on the taste-buds of the unsaved, there is reproach on our Lord’s name and a snare from the devil is allowed in!

We can think we know if our man is truly full of integrity,
but our prayers for him can only strengthen that integrity!

10-Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11- Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12- For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:6

And lastly in this prayer, we should pray for our husband to daily put on the WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD! Because the devil is tricky and the powers of darkness really are all around us, all the time.

Let us pray for our husbands to be men of integrity!

[day 6] PFYH: have a teachable spirit

[day 6] pray for your husband: to have a teachable spirit

1-The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the LORD. 2- All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits. Proverbs 15:33-34

I want my husband’s spirit to remain teachable.

heart

Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning. Proverbs 9:9

A man who is open to learning, even from subordinates,  is a man who can grow and mature in godliness and wisdom.

And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all. Mark 10:44

5- Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; 6- Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; 7- With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: 8- Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free. Ephesians 6:6

As the saying goes: no woman has ever argued with a man when he’s dusting, vacuuming or washing dishes.

This is a cute and rather humorous quote, but there is truth to it.

When a man has a servant’s heart, they are showing Jesus’ love and magnify Him… and this is what we want for our man.

Let us pray for our husband’s to
have a teachable spirit

and a servant’s heart!

[day 7] PFYH: to lead wisely and love sacrificially

[day 7] pray for your husband: to lead wisely and love sacrificially

For the most part, a godly woman wishes for her husband to be a strong leader and to put the family’s needs above his own.

This is something that truly is supernatural.

It comes from him having a close relationship with the Lord… this is something for which we can pray!

25-Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26- That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27- That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. 28-So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. 29- For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: 30- For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. 31- For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. 32-This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. Ephesians 5:25-32

heart

Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them. Colossians 3:19

No other religion {that I have ever heard of} even hints at a man treating his wife better than he treats himself. This is because, for Christians, the relationship between us as wives and our husbands is more than just 2 people living together creating a life and a family.

The relationship between my husband and me is one that should reflect the love Christ has for His bride, the church.
That is a strong love; it is sacrificial. It is supernatural indeed!

Let us pray for our husbands to allow the Lord
to lead them to
love us sacrificially
and lead us wisely !

[day 8] PFYH: controlled by the Holy Spirit

[day 8] pray for your husband: to be controlled by the Holy Spirit

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Hebrews 11:6

In order for our man to please the Lord in anything he does he must have faith and diligently seek Him.

heart

17-Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. 18- And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; 19- Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; 20- Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; 21- Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. Ephesians 5:17-21

In seeking the Lord and understanding the will of the Father, my husband will need to be filled with the Spirit:

… controlled by The Spirit.

This leads to things such as speaking psalm & hymns and singing in our hearts [and out loud 🙂 ] as well as giving thanks.

Let’s pray for our husband’s to be controlled
by the Holy Spirit!

[day 9] PFYH: to safeguard his heart

[day 9] pray for you husband: to safeguard his heart

20-My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother: 21- Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck. 22- When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee. 23- For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life: 24- To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman. 25-Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids. 26- For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life. Proverbs 6:20-26

I have never met a Christian woman [or any other, really] who desired for her husband’s affections to stray from her.

heart

But I do know of men and women whose affections have strayed from the one they vowed to love and honor for the rest of their days.

But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof. Romans 13:14

Let us pray for our husbands to
safeguard their hearts [for US]:

by staying close to the Lord,
by binding His commands into their hearts!

[day 10] PFYH: desire to be a picture of Christ in marriage

[day 10] pray for your husband: to desire to be a picture of Christ in marriage

This one definitely goes along with the previous one! 🙂

Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. Genesis 2:24

Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find? Proverbs 20:6

A faithful man!

heart

Who can find!?

28-So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. 29- For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: 30- For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. 31- For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. 32- This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. 33-Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband. Ephesians 5:28-33

Our relationship with our husband is so much more than just “a relationship” or even “a vow”.

It is a mystery, because it is a picture of Christ loving the church and how the church ought to serve and love Him in return…

This is a tall order that only help from that same Christ can help our man to fulfill!

Let us pray for our husbands
to love us as Christ loved the church!
